Panasonic has launched its TOUGHBOOK G2 in the Australian market, celebrating the latest addition in the company’s popular and ever-evolving rugged device range. Delivering greater flexibility, innovation and security than ever before, the TOUGHBOOK G2 is designed for the next generation mobile workforce.
Leveraging a ‘customer-first’ approach, the rugged Windows device is built in direct response to the complex needs of any agile workforce. Boasting a groundbreaking modular design, the TOUGHBOOK G2 offers three expansion areas and up to 36 different combinations to ensure users receive the ultimate customised computing experience.
Drawing on 25 years of innovation, the TOUGHBOOK G2 showcases the benefits of Panasonic’s latest technology while still maintaining the market-leading quality which has allowed TOUGHBOOK to be the most popular rugged device brand, globally.
The TOUGHBOOK G2 presents the ‘gold-standard’ of commercial device security, ensuring all data is stored with multiple layers of protection. The TOUGHBOOK G2 includes new advanced features which makes it compliant with a new class of secure PCs developed by Microsoft in collaboration with many partners.
Ranjit Sohoni, Senior Product Marketing Manager – Mobile Solutions at Panasonic System Solutions Oceania said: “Increasingly, mobile workforces demand rugged devices that can withstand a unique set of challenges, operate in the harshest environmental conditions and deliver a greater level of safety and assurance. The TOUGHBOOK G2 demonstrates the ongoing evolution of our rugged device portfolio, combining more than 25 years of heritage, innovation, and experience to support new ways of work – which are more agile and disruptive.”
“Panasonic is proud to continue offering our TOUGHBOOK solution to support a range of industries – from the critical work of emergency services currently protecting Australians on the frontline of a pandemic, to those working in field services, defence, mining and supply chain and logistics,” Mr Sohoni said.
Chris Bright, General Manager, Device Partner Sales at Microsoft Australia and New Zealand said: “Microsoft is proud to be a long-standing OEM partner of Panasonic and continues to support the innovation and evolution of the brand’s market-leading TOUGHBOOK range. The TOUGHBOOK G2 integrates Microsoft’s Secured-core PC – a modern Windows device that comes with the highest level of hardware, software and identity protection, ready right out-of-the-box. With Windows 11 coming to TOUGHBOOK G2 from 2022, Secured-core PC will couple with the most secure Windows yet, offering built-in chip to cloud protection to ensure an organisation’s data stays secure wherever work happens. This is particularly important in the typical TOUGHBOOK environment, where users operate in mission-critical situations in some of the most data-sensitive industries.”
The TOUGHBOOK G2 is ergonomically designed and lightweight (1.19kg) and has a rich set of carrying options to maintain device mobility. The G2 also includes glove-activated touchscreen capabilities, making removing one’s gloves in extreme conditions a problem of the past.
The device is flexible for the varying needs of mobile workers and can be optionally equipped using its configurable gadget ports which include serial, LAN, USB 2.0 or Thermal by FLIR. It is also backwards compatible with most TOUGHBOOK G1 and TOUGHBOOK 20 docks, allowing seamless integration to existing desktop or vehicle installations.
Heritage paired with market-leading innovation
The TOUGHBOOK G2 is designed and tested in Kobe, Japan, and manufactured in a number of Panasonic facilities across the world. Powerful enough to handle any type of application need, the device boasts an Intel® Core™ i5-10310U vPro™ processor, delivering incredible performance, and comes with Windows 10 Pro installed and ready-to-go.
To enable speed and efficiency when operating remotely the G2 also comes with 4G LTE (and is compatible with 3G), and 16GB RAM and 512GB available storage space to maintain high-performance. With up to 12 hours of battery life, and a possible 18.5 hours if the optional simple click and switch extended batteries are employed (and outdoor viewing features are utilised), the device is eight times more reliable than average industry notebooks without rugged features.1

The TOUGHBOOK G2 can also withstand the harshest environments, being resistant3 to water, dust, dirt, temperature fluctuations and the elements for workers who venture into places where traditional computing isn’t an option.
The TOUGHBOOK G2 is a Windows Pro tablet and comes with a standard three-year warranty which can be extended up to five years.
